KENYA’S Most Valuable Players Hilda Indasi and Okwako Halwenge should help restore the country’s glory in the region during next month’s Zone Five Nations Cub qualifiers in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Indasi the United States International University (USIU) clutch guard and Okwako, the Co-operative Bank of Kenya brash forward named the country’s best players over the weekend after the end of the national premier league now have the biggest task to lead the national sides back to the top in the region.
The two were named in a provisional list of 36 players who start training early next month for the zonal qualifiers slated for the Tanzania port city from January 20-27.
The championships will bring together national teams from Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi, Egypt, Somalia, Eritrea, Southern Sudan and the host Tanzania.
The pressure is on the teams to be handled by Ronny Owino and Philip Onyango (women) Francis Ngunjiri and Peter Kiganya (women) to deliver after years of poor performances especially against the Egyptians and lately the Rwandese. The top men and women sides from this tournament will represent the zone in the Africa Nations Cup later next year.
